Our Favorite Toxic Rap Love Songs Vol. 2

By: The Mixtape Digital Team

As we’re all forcely aware, it’s Valentine's Day – a time where our timelines get flooded with a mix of the madly in love and the cynically miserable. Whether you’re one of these or somewhere between, we have something for you! To commemorate the holiday, the Mixtape digital team decided to continue the tradition and put together some of our favorite toxic rap love songs taylored for all of your problematic endeavors on this day of love.

Mateo:

“Silkk da Shocka” - Isaiah Rashad feat. Syd

We all fall apart after a breakup, some of us more than others. Rashad's ascension into Hollywood forces him to end his current relationship. And while women and drugs don't fill the void, he can't help but miss the one person who did.

“Good Heels” - Anderson .Paak feat. Jazmine Sullivan

.Paak shows he's no stranger to the game of hide and seek between side piece and girlfriend. It's an adrenaline rush with devastating consequences. That is, if you get caught.

“Are We Alright?” - Amie Blu

Amie Blu knows better than anyone that toxic love is a drug. It might be slowly killing us, but each sweet hit is putting us on Cloud 9, and we can't get enough.

Emma:

“Worst Day” - Future

This song inhabits all the factors of a toxic love song. It perfectly describes how Valentine's Day is the quintessential toxic holiday.

“Kevin’s Heart” - J. Cole

Toxic doesn't even begin to describe the message of this song. J. Cole uses his bars to perfectly explain how men will never be loyal or ready for relationships.

Lara:

“Teenage Fever” - Drake

If there are two things Drake can 100% pull off it’s toxic love songs and sampling my r&b favs. His use of JLo’s “if you had my love” was weaved perfectly into his lyrics and encapsulate the confusion and toxicity of young love.

“Jungle” - Drake

Yes, another one by Drake but this one HITSSSSSS. Honorable mention to H.E.R.’s version of this.

“She” - Tyler, the Creator & Frank Ocean

No words needed honestly this song is just *chefs kiss*

Jonah:

“PRBLMS” - 6LACK

This cut is somehow simultaneously mature and toxic. On one hand, 6lack delves into how he doesn't have the patience for a girl who isn't grounded and driven, but at the same time threatens any potential lovers with apathy if they display that kind of behavior. So while his standards are actually pretty reasonable by most standards, 6lack's toxicity on the track comes from his willingness to jump ship for anyone else in his rotation the second he sees any red flags. Not to mention, the dark and bouncy atmosphere on "PRBLMS" is absolutely addictive.

“Baby Blue” - Action Bronson feat. Chance the Rapper

Though we've come to assume toxic rap songs as being synthed-out and somber ballads "Baby Blue" completely flips that notion on its head. The vibrant piano-loop on this song is a perfect backdrop for some really playful bars from Bronson and Chance. There are moments on this track that are genuinely hilarious as the duo manifests negativity on their exes.

“More Than Ever” - LUCKI feat. CHASETHEMONEY

Some of the lyrics on this cut are absolutely painful. As LUCKI attempts to grapple with his attachment issues, we hear him force himself into avoiding love. The first lyric of the song states "accept she for the streets, it's for the better / I know she ain't loyal, but she makes me better," which perfectly captures how LUCKI strives for understanding and a connection, but ultimately resorts to treating women "like a dog or a sports car" to avoid any pain.

D:

“Lady of Neptune” - Tory Lanez

He’s literally giving rules to his significant others on how she’s supposed to act in his relationship with her.

“Rehab (Winter In Paris)” - Brent Faiyaz

My guy is addicted to her, but she is addicted to drugs.

“Right Now” - PnB Rock

Very out-of-pocket, sexual song that is on a certified Pornhub soundtrack.

Davis:

“Shameless” - The Weeknd

I mean literally just listen to the lyrics

“Throw Away” - Future

Again listen to the lyrics

Mattea:

“Love Galore” - SZA feat. Travis Scott

“Why you bother me when you know you don’t want me?” SZA is preaching to all of the situationships out there this Valentine’s Day.

“PUPPET” - Tyler, The Creator

Love is not always synonymous with happiness. Tyler talks about how obsessive and controlling it can be on this track from Igor. If you relate to these lyrics, maybe you should reevaluate your relationship…

“Love Game” - Eminem & Kendrick Lamar

“Man, what the fuck is the matter? I’m just a fuckin’ romantic, I fuckin’ love you, you fuckin’ bitch!” The king of toxic relationships brings in Kendrick to rap about how toxic the game of love can be. No matter how many problems it has caused them, they still are addicted to playing.

In addition, we made a special playlist of our favorite non-toxic rap love songs for any of your sappy needs today:
